Misgav Ladach Hospital

In the middle of the 19th century, there were a lot of very sick and
poor Jews in the old city.
In order to tend to them, (they) built the ‘Misgav Ladach’ hospital
in the neighborhood, with
the help of money they
received from the
Rothschild family.
Only one physician worked
at the hospital - Dr. Mazerki,
who tended to thousands of patients.
In 1948, during the battles for the old city in the War of
Independence, there wasn’t enough room for all of the wounded
(people) at the hospital. When the Palmach lost the battle, (they)
transferred the sick and wounded (people) to a new hospital they
had built in the Katamon neighborhood. After a few years, the
hospital moved to a bigger building in the neighborhood, and
today at the old hospital there’s a synagogue called Yakar.
