Item #3 (Advanced Level)
From Metula to Eilat
When they graduated from the military prep school, at the age of nineteen,
Adam, Roy and Tsafrir wrote on a note what they dream of being at the
age of thirty. Now as they reached the desired age and realized Tsafrir
hasn’t managed to make any of his dreams come true, they decided to go
all in for the one goal (they) could have done by age thirty – crossing
Israel from north to south on a toy car. Adam and Roy, film students,
grabbed the camera. Tsafrir sat down on the toy car, the top speed of
which is thirty kilometers per hour, and together they set out on a three
week journey from north to south, Metula to Eilat, a journey that also
managed to change their relationship and reveal to them, mostly for
Tsafrir, something else about their personality. And the difficulty of this
journey wasn’t just the existential wonderings, but also the way itself and
what happens on the road, the car that tended to break down just when
(you) need it. For instance, when Tsafrir finally starts a serious
relationship with Danielle, who will become his fiancé during the editing
of the film. This isn’t just a journey of three friends, it’s a journey of our
generation, generation Y, who’s constantly trying to stay young and feels
past its prime. The journey may have ended at the Taba terminal and
Tsafrir’s childhood dream finally came true, but there he realized that the
age of thirty isn’t the end of the course, just the middle of the journey.
