Singing and Protesting
This is not a street party in Wellington, New Zealand. These protesters,
who have been on the streets of the capital for five days, are protesting
against the Corona restrictions in the country and the police, who failed to
persuade them to return home by force, have changed tactics. "Baby
Shark," "Let It Go" and "Macarena," are just a few of the repulsive hits
played out loud in front of the Parliament building in an attempt to exhaust
the protesters. Demonstrations in the New Zealand capital have been
going on for several days, with protesters calling for easing Corona
restrictions and halting the vaccination obligation imposed on certain
sectors, including teachers and medical staff. The demonstrations there
were inspired by the truck drivers' demonstrations in Canada, which are
also continuing. Over the weekend, protesters continued to block the
Ambassador Bridge, one of the main arteries of trade between the United
States and Canada. And not just in Canada and New Zealand, similar
freedom convoys also arrived yesterday in France, Australia, the
Netherlands and other countries. In Europe, protesters will try to arrive in
Brussels in the next day, despite police checkpoints. In New Zealand and
Canada it also seems like they are not going to go home. Maybe the police
should consider simply changing the playlist.
