Returning to Sinai
Salim has a beach shack site at the Great Dune Beach in Sinai, one hour by
car from the border with Israel. This October he brushed up on his Hebrew
and had hundreds of Israelis over - youngsters, senior citizens, families
with children. Salim also remembers times when no Israelis came at all,
but now the Israeli tourism is coming back big time - three thousand
people a day come in and out of Sinai lately. The Bedouins are happy that
the Israelis are back, the Israeli security agencies less so, but the locations’
beauty and peacefulness, as well as the low prices, make the tourists’
concerns easier. “It’s safe, like going to Jerusalem,” said one of them.
