Happy Tu Bishvat
Look at this tree for a minute, does it look to you like someone who’s
happy to be celebrated soon? No, seriously, look at it! It seems to me that
if we had conferred and asked him beforehand, he probably would have
preferred that we come here in another, let’s say two months, in spring.
Then it would already have more leaves and possibly fruit. Why were our
sages in such a hurry to schedule the Trees’ New Year on Tu Bishvat of all
times, in the middle of winter, when trees are in this state? The fruits we’ll
see in spring, the process of their growing begins now. And with all due
respect to fruit, our sages chose to sanctify the process. And what about
us? Do we have patience for processes? Because if we judge, for example,
according to the pressure surrounding the high-school finals percentages, it
seems like we sanctify products more than processes. And it’s not just in
the education system, it continues later into the army, the university, at
work! Let’s take the patience for the process from Tu Bishvat, and when
this happens, I have no doubt that the fruits of success will be sweeter too.
Happy Tu Bishvat!
