Shaarei Akhim Synagogue

Shaarei Akhim Synagogue is a synagogue for the Jews of Kurdistan.
The Jews of Kurdistan have special stories. They believe that there are
[have been] Jews in Kurdistan for more than two thousand years.
Kurdistan is far from other places that have Jews in them and that’s
why there is no connection between the Jews in Kurdistan and Jews in
other places.
Maybe this explains the special story of Rabbi Osnat Barazani. A
woman rabbi and the head of a yeshiva. This is not in modern times;
this is in the 17th century.
Osnat is the daughter and granddaughter of important rabbis in
Kurdistan. Her father is the head of the yeshiva. She marries a student
from the yeshiva, Rabbi Yaakov Mizrahi. He is the head of the
yeshiva after Osnat’s father. Osnat teaches in the yeshiva and
everyone loves her. After her husband, she is the head of the yeshiva
and people call her “our teacher and rabbi, rabbi Osnat Barazani.”
