Binyan Nif'al –Nouns/Gerund

‫נפעל – שם פעולה‬

In Hebrew, we can derive a noun/gerund out of most verbs.
This is called ‫( שם פעולה‬gerund).
Just like the verbs themselves, the nouns are created in a constant
pattern, according to each Binyan.

Let's see how to derive a noun from an infinitive in NIF’AL.

Staying ‫הש ֲארּות‬ ‫ְלהש ֵאר‬
Linkage ‫ה ָּצ ְמדּות‬
Presence ‫ה ָּמ ְצאּות‬ (to stay)
Avoidance ‫ה ָּמ ְנעּות‬
‫ְלהצ ֵמד‬

(to be attached, linked)

‫ְלהמ ֵצא‬

(to be present)

‫ְלהמ ַנע‬

(to avoid)
