Item #3 (Advanced Level)
A Smart Robot
It’s a battle that has been going on for decades – man on one hand, the
machine on the other hand. Now it seems that another stage has arrived, a
stage that should possibly worry us all. For six years IBM Israel has been
working on this system, which would be able to argue on any topic with
humans. It’s probably one of the most difficult tasks for smart computers
today, understanding human language and knowing how to deal with it.
The computer knows, in seconds, to read millions of articles about the
subject matter, listen to the rival’s arguments at the same time and of
course answer them in real time. The goal is of course much broader,
creating a computer so smart it can communicate with human beings
naturally, as if it were human. Just last month the technology titan Google
presented a system, which was also developed by Israelis, and can
schedule an appointment to the hairdresser for us. It’s probably just a
matter of time until (the one) who’ll solve our home internet malfunction
and give us a real answer in customer retention too, will be a robot
altogether, not a service rep.
