Item #3 (Advanced Level)
There’s Always a First Time
Twenty eight year old Adi Bar Natan has always dreamt of integrating her
work with her love of the sea, so she decided to become the only female
lifeguard in Israel’s Mediterranean beaches. Usually, the lifeguard post is a
men-only club. It’s a hard job, at least during Israel’s swimming season,
which lasts six months. A job that requires excellent physical fitness as
well as demanding work hours, especially considering that Adi is a mother
of two daughters waiting at home. Let’s face it, sometimes the biggest
challenge a male or female lifeguard has is actually making the Israeli
swimming crowd to follow her instructions. In the Rishon Letzion
municipality, (they) hope that Adi is the first female lifeguard here, but
many other female lifeguards will follow her. “It’s funny to talk about this
as ground-breaking, it should be natural, it’s fifty percent of the
population, sometimes even a bit more, there’s no reason that women
shouldn’t be in almost any profession one can think of.” So the next time
you’ll get to post number one at the Rishon Letzion beach, you should
listen carefully to Adi Bar Natan’s instructions.
