Etrog – And now for our last and special guest. It has a
wonderful flavor and such a good scent – the Etrog. It
must be completely whole, with no cuts, scratches or
stains. Its shape is a little like a pyramid, wide on the
bottom and narrow on the top. This is the ‘pitam’. If it
falls off – the Etrog is not kosher. But there are Etrogim
that are picked off the tree without the pitam, and that is
okay. By the way, the Etrog is a citrus fruit and
sometimes they breed its tree with another fruit, like a
lemon. With this kind of Etrog we cannot fulfill the
mitzvah. We need a thoroughbred Etrog.
