English Translation
We’ve gotten to know them, and they are so different
from each other, but on Sukkot they come together.
These rings are made of lulav leaves. We need five like
these, we’ll put two on the lulav itself so that it won’t
open. One on the top part and another on the bottom part.
With the other three we will attach the hadasim and
aravot like this: With the lulav spine in front of us we
attach a hadas on the right, a hadas on the left and a
hadas in the middle. Then an arava on the right and an
arava on the left. The union is almost completed, only
the Etrog is alone. It waits for the morning of sukkot and
then it will join the festive mitzvah.
The four species teach us an important thing: Each one
of them is unique and different from its friend, but only
the union among them allows (us) to sanctify them in the
fulfillment of the mitzvah.
“Blessed are You, our L-rd, king of the universe, who
has sanctified us in His mitzvoth and has commanded us
on the taking of the Lulav. Blessed are You, our L-rd,
king of the universe, who has revived us and sustained
us and has brought us to this time.” Now we shake the
Lulav.
Each one of us is special, but when there is unity among
us, our holiness and power are on a completely different
level. Chag Sukkot Sameach! Happy holiday!
