Israeli Couscous

Israel contributed quite a few historic inventions that changed the world. In culinary – not so much.
(They) still argue today where did the falafel and tahini, the hummus and shawarma, come from,
but there’s no argument regarding one development. The ‘ptitim’ came to the world during austerity
due to the lack of rice. “Ben Gurion said, let’s make some food that (they) will eat and be full, and
make it cheap. So he turned to Osem”. Osem came back with shriveled dough that actually came
from European tradition. Surprisingly, after the rounded ‘ptitim’ version was made, the world fell in
love with the Israeli invention. Now you can find ‘ptitim’ under the name ‘Israeli couscous’ in
different ways of cooking and serving in quite a few high-end restaurants in the United States. And
here by us, still today ‘ptitim’ are considered as one of the foods kids love the most.
