over to him some of the regards and asked of him to go to some of
the families, so that G-d forbid no family would be missed.
There are many wondrous stories about Rabbi Aryeh Levin in the
books "There Was a Righteous Man" and "A Righteous Man –
Foundation of the World" that Simcha Raz wrote, and we warmly
recommend buying and reading them.
We will tell here an additional story:
On one of the days of the visits of the rabbi in the prison, the rabbi
saw a lonely prisoner sitting in a corner, sad and depressed. He
approached him and asked him: "Why are you sad? What happened
to you?" The prisoner answered: "Everyone has families outside that
write and visit and I have no one. All of my family was killed in the
Holocaust."
The rabbi stroked his head and comforted him. And then on the next
visiting day, the jailor entered and read aloud the names of the
prisoners that people had come to visit them. And suddenly he read
aloud also the name of this prisoner. The prisoner thought that it was
surely a mistake. He went outside and saw across the fence a
religious young man who was looking at him. He approached the
young man and asked him: "Who are you?"
The young man said: "Hello, I am the son of Rabbi Aryeh Levin. My
father told us about you and we decided that from now on I am your
family."
From that day the son of Rabbi Aryeh Levin continued to visit him
and to encourage his spirit.
