Loves Painting
Behind these canvases, which cost tens of thousands of dollars, sits Ahuva
Elisha, an eighty-nine year old ultra-orthodox woman, and in her small
home at the Me’a She’arim neighborhood (she) paints paintings that sell
all over the world. Ahuva’s peaceful paintings, or by her commercial name
Huvy, were actually created during especially gloomy times, when she was
a teenager in England during the Second World War. She no longer visits
her childhood’s landscapes, but only recreates them using a paintbrush.
Huvy’s family turned her hobby into an especially successful financial
business that makes hundreds of thousands of dollars a year. But you
won’t find her at festive exhibition openings, for decades she preferred to
remain anonymous. Even though she’s not interested in fame, Huvy knows
very well what makes her art into a business.
