Item #2 (Advanced Level)
An Unusual Game
Almost every day teenagers from all over Israel meet in Ramat Gan.
What’s common to all of them is (their) daily coping with difficulties.
Amit, who was born with a bone condition, had to undergo a leg
amputation; Ma’ayan had a bad accident at an amusement park in Holland
when a heavy ride amputated her leg; and Ibrahim became handicapped
after a metal gate at a hotel fell on him. But the opportunity given to them
to play for a wheelchair basketball team saved all three of them. What’s
important to them now is that no one pities them, they want all of us to
treat them the same as any other athlete. “I used to wait for some miracle,
maybe my leg will grow back or something like that, and now, even if a
doctor came to me and told me, “There’s an invention that you can get a
new leg”, I would tell him no”. Tomorrow Ilan’s annual fund-raiser will be
held, in the hope that the donations will help these teenagers make their
dreams come true, and by the way, their bar is very high.
