This is Bollywood
Between the alleys of old Yafo and Gordon beach in Tel Aviv, a
Bollywood production is being filmed in Israel for the first time. The
shoots are for the movie Drive, about street racers who pull a robbery in
one of the (most) secured places in India. And what do they do with the
spoils? Obviously – take a vacation in Israel. The Israeli crowd may not
have heard the name of the movie’s lead star, Jacqueline Fernandez, but
more than a billion Indians aren’t wrong; her Facebook page has more than
twenty three million fans. The lead (male) actor only has three and a half
million followers on Instagram and he has already started posting pictures
from Israel. The goal of the Bollywood production that came here for three
shooting days (with) eighty crew members – is to raise awareness of
tourism from India to Israel. This is an initiative by the Ministry of
Tourism, which in cooperation with the Office of the Prime Minister and
the State Department participate in financing the scenes taking place in
Israel. About ten million people are expected to see the movie.
Cooperations like this, in London for instance, increased tourism from
India and Indian diaspora by twenty eight percent in one year.
