The Lions Fountain
The fountain and sculpture are located at a park called “Bloomfield
Park”. It is a gift Israel received from Germany. (They) built in in 1989,
and it was the first fountain in Jerusalem. A German Artist called Gernot
Rumpf designed the sculpture. The artist traveled in Israel for a long
period and visited the Biblical Zoo, where he got the idea for the statue.
There is a lot of symbolism in the fountain. It tries to give the viewer a
feeling of paradise, and encourage peace among nations.
The symbols:
? The tree - symbolizes the Garden of Eden in the book of Genesis.
? The water clefts - 7 clefts, like the topological number 7 in the
Bible.
? Plants, water and animals - paradise.
? 4 openings from which the water flows from the pool - the 4 rivers
of paradise.
? Lions - the symbol of Jerusalem.
? Different animals together - an ideal world.
