Mount Zion Hotel and the Turkish Hamam

The Hamam is a bath, the origin of which (lies) in the Bizantine Roman
culture.
In Muslim society, the Hamam is a place where (people) clean and purify
the body before religious ceremonies like a wedding, or on the fortieth
day of a newborn baby.
The Hamam is also a place for social gatherings, for women and men on
separate days, and also a place for bathing at a time when there were no
showers in (people’s) homes.
The baths were important both to Jews and Arabs.
Hot water flow from the walls in the Hamam into little pools. The bather
sits on the floor near the pool, pours water on himself and absorbs the hot
fumes.
