Anyone Can
When Yaniv and Hodel were discharged from elite units, they looked for a
place to volunteer at. A small ad in the paper sent them to a club for
autistic youth. “We went to the place that day, a Friday morning, we met
five guys on the spectrum and fell in love.” This is the last practice before
the race, to which eighty participants from all over Israel will come, all
members of Eitan – Anyone Can. Young people without many options,
some living with their parents, others in assisted living; initiatives like this
allow them, even for one hour, to feel like everyone else. Some of them
run five kilometers and others ten, it isn’t simple for anyone. But masses
came to escort them and it helps. Soldiers, friends as well as family
members, some are familiar people who share a home with special needs
people. These practices don’t just get them in shape, they also let them feel
that they’re capable, that they’re advancing and mostly feel equal.
