Making History

Seventy years minus a day (after) the historic vote at the United Nations
over resolution one eight one, which ordered the end of the British regime

and the establishment of two states, a Jewish state and an Arab state,
hundreds of guests gathered tonight at that very same longstanding UN

headquarters to reenact that historic setting that ordered the establishment

of a Jewish state in the land of Israel. The Israeli delegation at the UN,
which initiated the event, made sure that representatives of the thirty three

countries that voted yay on November nineteen forty seven will come

tonight, alongside dozens of other ambassadors whose countries
recognized the state of Israel over time, including Egypt’s ambassador to

the UN. Ron Lauder, President of the World Jewish Congress, chose to

remind the guests the UN’s treatment toward Israel over the years, as well
as the fact that the Palestinians chose to ignore the outcomes of that vote.

The festive event was closed by Horah dancers, who reminded everyone

that same joy that broke out in the Jewish settlement seventy years ago in
the land of Israel and in Jewish communities in the diaspora.
