The Building of the Palace of the High Commissioner

In 1930 the British built their commissioner a house to live in. This house
is truly a palace like in the fairy tales. It has many rooms, a giant dance hall,
(and) a big, fancy fireplace for heating the dance hall.

The British hired an Armenian artisan who built the fireplace in a Middle-
Eastern style, covered it with blue stones and created a mosaic similar to
ancient mosaics in Jordan and in Israel.

In the fireplace there is a combination of Armenian, Christian and Jerusalem
elements. There is a very special effect here of the European style of the
dance hall with the Middle-Eastern style of the big fireplace.

The British held in this palace many dance parties. In the winter the parties
were held in the fancy hall and in the summer the parties were in the
enchanting garden that the British built especially for the parties.
The British did everything so that the parties would be successful and would
be similar to parties in England.

For example: the British built around the garden especially high walls so that
the wind would not lift up the skirts of the ladies and so their hats would not
blow off.

They built the palace of the High Commissioner on a mountain – "The
Mountain of the Bad Plot."
The Christians call this place "The Mountain of the Bad Plot." They tell that
in the time of the Second Temple in this place was the house of the High
Priest.
At that time, Jesus started to spread his religion and the Jews feared his
influence. In this house the priests gathered and thought what to do in order
to distance Jesus from the Jewish people. They decided to tell the Romans
about Jesus that he is a radical person and his religion is different than the
religion of the Romans.
From the Christian perspective, this was a bad plot, because when the
Romans heard what the priests told them, they caught Jesus and crucified
him.
