Jerusalem of Us All

When you stand on the promenade of Armon HaNatziv, it is possible to see
a classic Jerusalem view:
Stone buildings, old opposite new, Jewish neighborhoods and Arab
neighborhoods, and in the center – the Old City.
When you stand and look at Jerusalem, standing with us are many
generations of people:
Avraham (Abraham) our forefather stands with us, who arrived here with
his son Yitzchak (Isaac). And when he saw opposite him Mount Moriah –
that we too see now – G-d said to him: here shall be the binding (of
Yitzchak).
King David stands with us, who saw the city and decided to build there the
capital city.
Prophets stand with us, who warned the Jewish people that Jerusalem would
be destroyed, but also promised them that Jerusalem would be built again.
Jews from all over the world stand with us, who dreamed to reach Jerusalem.
Children who were born after 1948 and until the Six-Day War stood here,
looked at the Old City and dreamed that one day – also it would be ours.
Everyone saw in this city something else, and everyone – until today – sees
in it something of his own.
There are people who are searching for the history and the archeology, and
people who are building more and more new places.
There are people who are searching for holy places to pray in, and people
who want Jerusalem to be a secular city.
There are tourists from all over the world and Israeli students and soldiers
who stroll here every day.
There are Jews who see the Temple Mount and the Western Wall, Arabs
who see the mosque and Christians who see the churches that tell about the
life of Jesus.
And you, who stands here now. What do you see?
