Jerusalem of Us All
When you stand on Armon HaNatziv, it is possible to see a classic Jerusalem
view:
Buildings of stone, old opposite new, Jewish neighborhoods and Arab
neighborhoods, and the Old City.
When we stand and look at Jerusalem, we are not alone. Standing with us
are many more generations of people:
Avraham (Abraham) our forefather stands with us, looking at Mount Moriah
and hearing G-d say: here, on Mount Moriah, shall be the binding of
Yitzchak (Isaac).
King David stands with us, looking at Jerusalem and deciding to build here
his capital city.
Standing with us are the soldiers who fought over Jerusalem.
Standing with us are Jews from all over the world whose dream was to arrive
here.
In every generation, everyone saw Jerusalem a little differently. Also today,
everyone sees here something else:
There are people who are searching for the history and the archeology, and
people who are building more and more new places.
There are people who are searching for holy places for prayer, and people
who want a secular Jerusalem.
There are tourists from all over the world, and Israeli students, and soldiers
who stroll here every Sunday.
There are Jews who think here about King David, Arabs who think about
Mohammed and Christians who think about Jesus.
And you, who stands here now. What do you see?
