Using the verb “to be” – ‫ ִל ְהיֹות‬in the Future Tense
As mentioned earlier, the verb ‫ = ִל ְהיֹות‬to be, is not used in Hebrew in the

present tense. This verb has 4 main usages:

1. Location

In this case the verb ‫ ִל ְהיֹות‬is conjugated according to the object / subject / person.

Present Future ‫ָע ִתיד‬ ‫הֹוה‬

I am home. I will be ‫א ֱהיה בב ִית‬ .‫א ִני בב ִית‬
home tomorrow. .‫ָמ ָחר‬
They are .‫ֵהם בּקֹו ְלנֹוע‬
in the cinema. They will be ‫ֵהם ִי ְהיּו‬
She is in the cinema. .‫בּקֹו ְלנֹוע‬ .‫ִהיא ב ִמ ְש ָרד‬
in the office.
She will be ‫ִהיא ִת ְהיה‬
in the office. .‫ב ִמ ְש ָרד‬
