Act Out 22
At the Recruiting Office – part 1
Daniel: Hello, I’m Daniel Levy.
Interviewer: Hello Daniel. Come, sit.
Daniel: Thank you.
Interviewer: You’re welcome. Daniel, I want to hear a little (about)
who you are, what you want to do in the army, and why
Daniel: you want to enlist. All right.
(That’s) perfectly all right.
Interviewer: You only say the truth. There are no right or wrong
answers, understand?
Daniel: I understand.
Interviewer: Great. Daniel, I understand you’re a new immigrant.
When did you come on aliyah?
Daniel: A month ago.
Interviewer: Why did you come on aliyah?
Daniel: Every year my family visits in Israel. All year long I think
about Israel and wait for this visit. At the end of the visit,
I don’t want to return to America. I feel that I’m going
[traveling] to America, but my heart is staying here, in
Israel. I love Jerusalem, I love [the] Israeli culture, I love
speaking in Hebrew. I feel that Israel is the place for me
[my place].
Interviewer: Ohh… I see. You know it’s not easy to live in Israel,
right?
Daniel: Of course I know. My parents, my brothers and all my
friends live in New York. My job is in New York, and
here in Israel I’m out of a job [I don’t have work].
Sometimes [the] Israelis speak fast and I don’t understand
anything. And the bureaucracy… oh, the bureaucracy.
Interviewer: And the terror (attacks).
Daniel: Yeah, I know. Life in Israel is no picnic. But I told you:
This is the place for me.
