Stephen Hawking
More than anything else, Professor Stephen Hawking was a medical
miracle. At the age of twenty two, while studying in a graduate degree
program at the prestigious Oxford University, he was diagnosed as
suffering from a nerve-related muscle atrophy disease, ALS. After the
initial crisis, which was well documented in the award winning biographic
movie The Theory of Everything, he realized his emotional plans when he
married Jane, who he met at the university’s hallways, as well as his
intellectual calling when thanks to the theories he formulated on time,
space and black holes, he got his PhD in physics, and for almost thirty
years he held the same professor position given to Sir Isaac Newton, the
forefather of modern physics. But Hawking wasn’t just an academic
scientific prodigy. Just as he overcame his physical limitations, he had the
ability to make complex physics accessible to the masses. Stephen
Hawking became a mega-celebrity, a sought-after lecturer, but also a star
for the masses. “His courage, perseverance, genius and sense of humor
were an inspiration to many all around the world,” his three children wrote
today as they announced his passing away.
