                 Trump is the New President

This election night displayed most vividly the split that the United States is
currently experiencing. Split in to two, (now) more than ever – the old
white America versus the minorities’ America; the conservative villagers
against the liberals in big cities; globalization enthusiasts against those
who felt the American dream slipping through their fingers. A large
portion of the Democratic Party voters didn’t go out to vote for their
candidate this time. On the other hand Trump received a much higher
support from non-white voters that the previous Republican candidate Mitt
Romney. This election campaign stirred up more emotions than any
previous campaigns, and the reactions that followed it were also unusual in
American landscape. In California thousands of students burned the
President Elect in effigy. Online, disappointed with the results, internet
users looked for a way out, and the more Trump’s victory became certain,
more and more users found out the details of immigrating to Canada, until
finally the Canadian Citizenship and Immigration website just crashed.
This election campaign leaves America divided. Trump promises this
morning that he will reunite the country. Now (we) have to wait and see
whether the one who has such a large part in creating these tears, will also
be the one to mend them.
