Catalonia vs. Spain

Seven and a half million Catalans want to vote on the question whether Catalonia should part from
Spain and gain independence. Catalonia is the richest region in Spain, they speak Catalan and not
Spanish and they have a parliament – the Generalitat. The Spanish government gives the Catalans a
lot of autonomy, but doesn’t want to part with Catalonia. The Spanish government is scared of
losing the millions of tourists who come to Barcelona and Costa Brava every year, but is also scared
that other regions like Andalusia or the Basque Country will ask for independence too. There are
still many more questions no one knows the answer to, and who knows whether after the
referendum Catalonia will declare (its) independence, or start a dialogue. Time will probably have
its effect.
