New York’s Israeli Chef
Readers of USA Today [newspaper] chose the Israeli Timna restaurant as
the best new restaurant in America for two thousand fifteen. Timna is at
New York’s East Village, between an Indian and a Mexican restaurant.
The restaurant’s chef is Israeli, Nir Messika, who grew up in the Krayot,
and opened the restaurant just eight months ago along with two other
Israeli partners. He started his career as a dish washer at a café, and later
worked as a sous-chef, by the master Meir Adoni. The choice surprised Nir
as well, but he believes that Israeli food is the best food in the world and
suggests Israel should become a chef and culinary center, and not just (a)
startup (center).
