Traveling on the Holiday
A moment before winter arrives, Chol Hamoed Sukkot is the last
opportunity to travel and enjoy the sun, and tens of thousands certainly
took advantage of the nice weather today. Sukkot is also the holiday of
festivals; dozens of events take place all over Israel, a large part of them
are free. At the children’s museum in Be’er Sheva (they) held the
traditional Taki championship today, at the Zipori National Park (they)
built huge sukkahs and explained the location’s connection to the holiday.
Meanwhile the weekend and morning hours’ weather changed, and first
signs were seen of the Yoreh, the first rain of the season, which was
received with open arms. The wait for the rain was especially long this
time, after a few winters low in precipitation. The draught is well-felt all
over nature reserves and creeks, and so reserve managers say a blessing for
every bit of rain, even during the holiday. The rain is expected to come
down tonight and will grow stronger tomorrow morning, but will be
focused mostly at the coastal plain, far from the Kineret and the creeks that
are so thirsty for it. And in any case, it’s not expected to bother (those)
who still intend to go out and travel on Chol Hamoed.
