Purim Enlists Too

In this coming holiday of Purim, super heroes and Disney princesses - out, (male and female)
soldiers, (male and female) police officers - in. Each year, the (most) popular costumes represent
the prominent trends of the passing year, the big stars, successful movies, so it’s no wonder that
after five months of the ‘individuals’ intifada’, the most sought after costumes are those of the
defense forces. The militant trend of Purim two thousand sixteen has no gender either. According to sales
records, the youngest (female) lieutenant colonel in history, six year old Ofir, is expected to meet lots of tiny
women soldiers like her, but they won’t look exactly the same, since marketing networks made sure to
leverage the patriotic potential. So even though the holiday of costumes is a once-a-year opportunity to take
off the school uniform and go crazy with a variety of colors and fantasies, children of Israel actually prefer
wearing a uniform this year. All that is left now is learning how to salute.
