                                           Item #2 (Advanced Level)

                 A Signal from Another Planet

This little blip in the center of the graph is exciting the web in the recent
day. The famous signal was received by this Russian radio-telescope near
the black sea, and it was aimed at the planet HD164595 in the Hercules
constellation. It was received for mere seconds in May last year. The
information was kept secret and will be presented for the first time at the
yearly convention by the SETI program for searching life outside Earth,
next month. The frequency (was) one point one one gigahertz and
theoretically it fits in its structure a radio transmission that could have
come from a distant civilization. Two challenges now - receiving it again,
(and) the second challenge - ruling out the possibility that this was a
manmade electromagnetic disturbance. It's already happened that
suspicious signals turned out to be lateral radiation from the microwave
oven at the researchers' coffee station. And after all of these - what's wrong
with imagining that it's still a transmission from a star system just ninety
light years (away) from us? (We) have to hope that whoever pressed the
'send' button on that distant planet did it more than once, and in our
direction.
