Yitzhak Rabin
“Twenty two years ago there was a murder, it was political. The goals of
the murder were clear and defined, and yes, there was incitement.” The
twenty second anniversary to the murder of Yitzhak Rabin may he rest in
peace, became a day of a harsh exchange of words, “Yitzhak Rabin didn’t
initiate legislation, didn’t act against his opponent’s democratic rights, or
towards shutting mouths. (He) never ran away from responsibility nor
whined. Things aren’t that way today.” Yuval Rabin’s speech, some of
which was directly aimed at Prime Minister Netanyahu, sealed the national
memorial service at Mt. Herzl where President Rivlin and Prime Minister
Netanyahu spoke as well. Prime Minister Netanyahu on his end devoted a
significant portion of his speech to a comparison between the way of
thinking and legacy of Yitzhak Rabin and his own way of thinking – in
security, regarding evacuating settlements and the issue of Jerusalem.
Even at the special session held in the late afternoon at the Knesset
Assembly Netanyahu continued paralleling him and Rabin may he rest in
peace, when he answered the criticism son Yuval threw at him, “Be
surprised Yuval, I understand your pain. You came to me and I raise the
gauntlet, I call for national reconciliation and brotherhood.”
