                                 The Kufsonim

Who are the Kufsonim? They are the figures drawn by Adi Sened. He
began painting them while he was an architecture student at Bezalel,
and since then they have become an integral part of the Tel Aviv
landscape. He painted geometric shapes influenced by his
architectural studies, which became small and amusing figures. Why
are they called Kufsonim? Because they are square, like a box
(Kufsa).
Some of the Kufsonim are tributes to familiar figures from popular
history and culture such as Moshe Dayan, the Little Prince, Santa
Claus and others. They hold everyday objects like a guitar, an apple
and a key. In one of his works there are Kufsonim in the form of
Adam and Eve, but unlike the biblical story, here Adam gives Eve the
apple and she has a knife - what does she want to cut? The apple or
the person who gives it to her?
The characters conduct a dialogue with each other, and of course with
passersby. Usually, the Kufsonim are in pairs, and sometimes
alongside different animals. A lot of Kufsonim are located relatively
low (on the wall), and this is not random. Sened locates the figures so
that children can meet them at eye level, knowing that children often
see details that disappear from adult's view.
