                 What (People) Think of Israel

Only one year ago, Jewish youngster Ami Horwitz wandered the campus
of Berkley University in California and saw how the ISIS flag doesn’t
bother anyone, while Israel’s flag meets contempt. A year has passed, and
at a time when BDS and the boycott on Israel focus (people’s) attention, a
new tour of universities, on the east coast this time, reveals a picture just as
gloomy. This time Horwitz went to Columbia University in New York,
Harvard in Boston, and even at Brandeis University, considered a Jewish
stronghold, it was very hard to find sympathy for Israel. Some will see this
as another step of United States’ Jews pulling away, but what’s certain is
that it will be harder than ever to rely on Jewish students in the on-campus
struggle against BDS. It’s interesting that those same youngsters who see
Israel as a country with Apartheid characteristics, don’t let the human
rights situation in Palestine bother them. For the attention of those
organizing the struggle against the boycott - the problem is deeper than we
thought, and it starts at what’s supposed to be (our) home court.
