Rabbi Pinto also in Jail
It’s doubtful whether Rabbi Yoshiyahu Pinto himself believed up to the
last minute that this is how the bribe affair, at the center of which he stood
in the past five years, would end. He was scheduled to go into jail at one.
Pinto was delayed; at first it was claimed that he was on his way to
Hadassah Ein Kerem Hospital for a medical procedure he was supposed to
undergo before entering jail. He didn’t arrive at the hospital, but still took
the liberty of being about three quarters of an hour late to the Prison
Service. The police and Prison Service’s massive preparation for the
presence of hundreds of Pinto’s people became unnecessary today; only
few arrived, at his request. Last night he still held a last meeting with his
students. This is how the fall of the meteor, who gathered the country’s
elite around him in recent years, and went to jail under the accusation of
[taking a bribe], which he confessed and recanted - looks like. And even
today, it’s doubtful whether this is the last note [lit. chord] of one of the
(most) intricate affairs that rattled the police’s elite.
