IL, Unit 8
Act out from English.
1 Uncle, Why do you buy fruits and vegetables in the
market? Are they cheaper than the fruits and vegetables in the supermarket?
2 Ummm… It depends. There are very cheap supermarkets.
But the fruits and vegetables in the market are fresher and better than in the supermarket.
3 Cucumber – Only two shekels per kilo!
Tomato, tomato – Only one and a half shekels per kilo! Sweet tangerine, only today, only
today!
4 You know? I like the market in Israel. Everybody’s shouting.
There isn’t one moment of quiet.
5 Yes, (that’s) right. All the vendors want to bring buyers. Whoever wants buyers needs to
shout.
6 Well, what do we need?
7 A kilo of tomatoes, a kilo of cucumbers, a kilo of carrots and 2 kilo of potatoes.
And (we) also need fruit: A kilo of oranges, a kilo of tangerines and two grapefruits. We
need to hurry; I have a meeting in an hour.
8 You know, the fruits and vegetables here really are fresh and good.
The market is something special.
9 Yes, the market really is something special. You know,
the market has an interesting history, and a lot of stories. Ah… Do you smell that?
10 Yes! What is that smell?
11 It’s a bakery – Marzipan Bakery. An excellent bakery…
Let’s go buy some rogalach.
12 But Uncle, Aren’t we in a hurry [hurrying]? I thought you’re in a hurry for work.
13 I really am in a hurry, and that’s why I’m buying rogalach.
The rogalach give me strength to do shopping fast.
14 When it comes to food, Uncle, you always find a reason.
15 When it comes to food, Danny, I don’t need a reason.
