Item #3 (Advanced Level)
Everyone is the Same
Hila is standing in front of her parallel class, Bet three, explaining to them
about Nevus [disease], a rare skin condition that covers portions of her
body. She feels so comfortable she doesn’t even mind answering the kids’
hard questions. Mimi is already a part of the fourth grade, a part of the
school landscape [lit. view]. “There are times that I fall and need help
getting up, so she helps me. I don’t feel different, because actually
everyone is different than one another.” This is the essence of this school,
the Green School, named after Shimon Peres, in Kefar Saba. The
percentage of children with disabilities is high, almost every fourth child is
a child with difficulties, but the school proves that when you want to –
(you) can. The integration of these children is a success story. Gabi, Hila,
Ariel, Ido and Mimi are schooling all of us. The lesson they give no
teacher can teach in their place. True, they have difficulties, but just
between us, who among us doesn’t? The fact that theirs are obvious
doesn’t make them unusual.
