The Down Side of the Kineret

Six days of searching the Kineret ended tonight with locating the body of
Itamar Ohana from Kiryat Shmona. Immediately as they received the
message, his many family members waiting at Lavnun beach, released a
great sigh of relief that Itamar has been found. Yesterday in the late
afternoon rescuers found, using the sonar that came from the Navy and
mounted on Kibbutz En-Gev’s fishing boat, the other two missing persons:
Liron Karadi, aged seventeen from Netanya, and Nahman Itah, aged
twenty one from Beitar Ilit. Rescue efforts focused in the past twenty four
hours on a spot about four hundred meters off the coastline, were the
bodies of Karadi and Itah were located yesterday as well. Searching was
held at a depth of twenty five meters, where divers have no visibility at all,
and so the sonar is the only thing that can help locate objects in the water.
Even for Itamar Ohana’s family members, it was clear today that there is
no chance left of finding their loved one alive. In the meantime, lifeguard
services that operated over the holiday have closed until the beginning of
official bathing season, which will open in about two weeks. And until
then, (we) hope all conclusions will be taken to prevent other disasters.
