What Shoes do (they) Wear in Israel?
A country girl from Jezreel Valley, a hi-tech worker in Rehovot, a settler
from south Har Hebron and a teenaged girl from Herzliya, all wake up in
the morning and wear Australian work boots. So how did these boots get
here and how did they become so popular? The boots come from England,
where Queen Victoria wanted to wear comfortable boots with no
shoelaces. From England the boots got to India and from India to
Australia. When Roy traveled in Australia with his friend in ninety six, he
saw many Israelis who bought these boots for their friends or family. He
decided to import the boots to Israel, and slowly people starting wearing
the boots, first in the periphery and then the center as well. Today, Israel is
the third country after Australia and Canada where these boots are the
most popular, both for women and for men.
