Miri Regev’s Dress
For a few minutes on the red carpet yesterday at the Cannes Film Festival,
Minister Miri Regev felt like the biggest movie personalities of the world.
Photographers stopped her time and again, in order to capture the unusual
dress Israel’s Minister of Culture was wearing. Minister Regev chose for
the media-riddled event a dress at the bottom of which is none other than
the Jerusalem skyline. The web, as expected, wasn’t indifferent, and that’s
an understatement. The Peace Now movement took advantage of the dress
to promote a demonstration, Another user chose to replace Jerusalem for
the separation fence, or HaBima square in Tel Aviv, or even the city of
Petah Tikvah. Even around the world the dress got attention on the biggest
news sites in Europe. The person who designed the dress is Aviad Arik
Herman, who also walked alongside her at Cannes last night. Now, after
the criticism, Minister Regev and the designer are considering what to do
with the dress, with one of the options considered was displaying it at the
Israel Museum in Jerusalem. So after it’s already been turned into a
tradition, (we) only have to wait and see what clothing item Miri Regev
will choose to show up with next year at the Cannes Film Festival.
