A Selfie with Trump
Until about an hour before Air Force One’s landing, the welcoming event
at Ben Gurion airport didn’t include handshakes with dignitaries. At the
last minute, the President of the United States’ staff were convinced and
finally agreed to a short meeting just with the ministers on the red carpet.
Knesset Member Oren Hazan wasn’t included in the list and was forced to
sit in the second row. But Hazan had a goal; Hazan manages to sneak into
the first row and now waits his turn to meet with President Trump. The
Master of the Ceremony asks him to return to the second row, he complies
with her request. But immediately as the handshakes begin, Hazan awaits
his turn again. “I told Trump that (they) call me the Israeli Tump, he said
“(they) need more of us”.” And Hazan doesn’t settle for the brief
conversation. He quickly pulls out (his) phone from his pocket and asks
Trump – for a selfie! Netanyahu tries to stop the embarrassment, but the
selfie was already taken. So maybe for us this selfie became the image of
the visit, but the world actually prefers to focus on this moment, in which
First Lady Melania prefers not to walk hand in hand with her husband,
President Donald Trump.
