Item #2 (Low-Intermediate Level)
Israeli Couscous
For seventy years the Israelis invent a few things that change the whole
world. We’re usually good at technology, but less so in culinary. Still
today (people) in Israel argue over where do the falafel, tahini and
Shawarma come from, but don’t argue about one thing – ‘ptitim’. They
make the ‘ptitim’ in the fifties, because there isn’t a lot of food in Israel,
and Ben Gurion asks Osem for cheap food that could replace rice. At first
(they) only eat ‘ptitim’ in Israel, but from the moment they make them
round Israeli Couscous, found in every home in Israel, gets to many
restaurants in the whole world, too.
