Item #1 (Advanced Level)
New Highway One
When the Ministry of Transportation and the Netivey Israel Company
promised to make the passengers’ dream come true, they surely weren’t
talking about this dream. On the first Sunday after the opening of the Harel
tunnels, even bigger traffic jams than usual were logged. Thirty five
minutes from Jerusalem to Tel Aviv and vice versa? Not exactly. This is
what drivers on the road photographed all through the morning: traffic is
slowly moving along, the road as of now can’t hold the load, even after the
opening of the talked-about tunnels. At the Ministry of Transportation,
(they’re) promising that the third lane, which will be opened this coming
May, will make the drive on the road significantly easier, which they claim
would become flowing and safe. Public transportation, which up until
today passed through the Harel interchange and served civilians and
soldiers who were mostly confused today, was moved to the Hemed
interchange. But here, pay attention, there are no broad shoulders and
there’s nothing to separate the exposed sidewalk from passengers on the
road. And back to the traffic jams, they continued even after dark. The
images from above highlight the (most) meaningful word of today – crawl.
At least for the moment, at the jumpstart phase, the light at the end of the
tunnels is still far away.
