Decathlon in Israel
Sports and camping enthusiasts are already at their marks towards the
entry of the French sporting goods network, regarded as “the Ikea of
sports.” Decathlon, which will open next week – it’s three thousand meters
with sixty departments of sports and sporting goods, but the big question –
will the low prices that (we) know in Europe get here as well. Unlike other
international networks, Decathlon is coming into Israel with no resellers,
which means no middlemen to jack the price even higher. But there’s still
shipping, customs and taxes. And as experience teaches (us), international
networks that recently came into Israel may offer lower prices for (their)
field, but are still more expensive than abroad. Unlike Europe, where
(they) sell leading sports brands alongside the network’s private brands, in
Israel only the private brands will be sold. Next week we’ll learn whether
the new network will ‘break’ prices in the camping and sports field in
Israel. What’s certain is that the entry of a vigorous new competitor can
only benefit competition.
