Going or Staying
Residents of south Tel Aviv (have been) waiting for two years for this
ruling, regarding this petition by human rights organizations about
deporting illegal immigrants to third (party) countries, and saw it as a
possible solution for their plights, but this wasn’t the decision they were
expecting. In a five-judge panel, it was decided that deporting illegal
immigrants would be possible, but not using unlimited incarceration as
punishment. By (doing) this the court basically left things as they are, and
didn’t allow the actions planned by the government. Just this Saturday
residents of south Tel Aviv demonstrated in Jerusalem demanding to reach
a ruling, now they demand decision makers to act towards a change. “The
court approved exiting to a third (party) country, but took away the state’s
leverage, we won’t let go until we solve this.” Prime Minister Benjamin
Netanyahu addressed the ruling and said that the government will get an
amendment in order to allow deportation of the illegal immigrants. Since
the decision was made, the government has the responsibility again to find
a solution to this crisis.
