Bethlehem Road

"Bethlehem Road" is a street in Jerusalem named after an ancient road that
led from the Jaffa Gate to the city of Bethlehem in southern Jerusalem. The
road was very central and armies would pass through it on their way from
south to north.
During World War I, the road was used by the 53rd Division of the British
Army, which wanted to conquer Jerusalem.
During the Second World War, the British established a military camp on
"Bethlehem Road" called "Al-Alamein Base."
After the British left the camp, Arabs took over it and attacked Jewish
neighborhoods from it. After the War of Independence, the road and its
surroundings went back to being under Jewish control.
Today on “Bethlehem Road” there are cafes, restaurants and historic
houses.
