       Rachel the poetess - ‫ר ֵחל ַה ְּמׁשֹו ֶר ֶרת‬

English translation
Rachel the poetess was born in the year of 1890 in Russia. At the age of
15 Rachel began writing poems in Russian. At the age of 19 Rachel
came to visit Israel with her sister Shoshana. Rachel and Shoshana were
on their way to Italy, to study art and Philosophy there. Rachel fell in
love with Israel, the people and the Hebrew language, and decided to
stay in Israel. Rachel moved to live at the Kinnereth farm, where she
met (got acquainted with) Zelman Shazar and fell in love with him.
Zelman was later on the third president of the state of Israel.
Rachel wrote poems, played the piano and sang, and a lot of people
came to her parties. Rachel worked in the Kibbutz in agriculture,
because she believed that was the thing that was important for the land
of Israel.
In 1913 Rachel traveled to France to continue studying agriculture.
When Rachel was in France, the First World War erupted, and she
couldn't return to Israel. Rachel traveled to Russia and took care of
Jewish refugee children. That's where she was infected with
tuberculosis.
In the year of 1919 Rachel returned the Kibbutz in Israel – being very
sick. The people in the Kibbutz were afraid of Rachel's disease and
asked her to leave the Kibbutz. Rachel was sick and very sad.
Rachel moved to Zefat (Safed), then to Tel Aviv and eventually to
Jerusalem – because Dr. Helena Kagan agreed to have her. She lived in
a small house in Helena Kagan's Back yard. There, she continued
writing her marvelous poems about the Kinnereth, the land of Israel and
love – poems that everybody like and sing until this very day.
In the year of 1931 Rachel died and was buried in a tomb near her
beloved Kinnereth.
Until today, a lot of people come and visit the tomb of Rachel the
poetess.
