Aliyah During the War
Six months after the most severe war we've known began, there are those who
specifically choose this time to follow the path which may seem obvious to us
but utterly crazy to any outsider. They leave their comfortable lives in Europe
or the United States and come here, to Israel, to establish their homes.
Since the beginning of the war, around fourteen thousand new immigrants
from various places around the globe have arrived. While this number is
significantly lower than in previous years, it still exceeds the predictions of the
Israeli authorities.
In two recent conferences, a comprehensive national plan was launched with
the ambitious goal of bringing in two thousand Jewish doctors from around
the world within five years - those who would choose to leave their
comfortable salaries and preferred conditions to come here and assist in the
war effort.
Brazil, the United States, France, India, and Mexico are some of the
destinations from which more and more Jews have arrived in recent months.
At the peak of the war, they return home to the unknown, enlist in the IDF, or
enter the job market knowing that this is the safest place for them.
