Singing Karaoke
Karaoke is usually synonymous with a night out with friends at a smoky
club or a nuisance for neighbors, but this thing too, like our entire social
experience, is rushing into the smartphone. Yokee, an Israeli company
from Yehud, made the singing dream of amateur singers into an ‘exit’ of
tens of millions of dollars. The principal is simple: the lyrics pass on the
screen, the selfie camera captures the performance, and at that point it’s
just save and share. Two million new users every month, and three
hundred thousand active every day, the Canadian Stingray company that
deals with music and wants to get to private customers, put its money on
Yokee and along the way tied a loop for the founders. The company, with
its eighteen employees, remains modest, in Israel and Yehud, not going
anywhere, because even after the ‘exit’, (you) have to keep playing.
